Structured Cabling Installation

Behind every fast network, reliable Wi-Fi network and stable CCTV system is a set of cables nobody sees. Our structured cabling installation service builds that foundation properly, using CAT6, CAT6A and fibre optic cabling that is neatly routed, clearly labelled and ready for years of use. At Smart Guard CCTV, we plan the cabling around your building and your equipment, so every camera, access point, computer and device has a dependable, wired connection.

What Is Structured Cabling?

Structured cabling is an organised, planned cable system that connects all your network equipment through central points such as a patch panel and cabinet. Instead of a tangle of cables added over time, you get a tidy layout that is easy to manage, simple to extend and quicker to fix when something goes wrong.

CAT6 Cabling

CAT6 cabling is the dependable everyday choice for most homes, shops and offices. It supports fast, stable connections for computers, phones, printers, CCTV cameras and Wi-Fi access points, and it has largely replaced older CAT5e cabling in new installations. For most standard needs, it offers excellent performance at a sensible cost.

CAT6A Cabling

CAT6A cabling is built for higher demand. It handles very fast speeds over longer runs and is better protected against interference, which makes it a strong choice for busy offices, server and comms rooms, video-heavy networks and anyone who wants to future-proof their installation. The cable is thicker and costs more than CAT6, so we recommend it where the extra performance is genuinely useful.

Fibre Optic Cabling

Fibre optic cabling carries data as pulses of light, which allows very high speeds over long distances without electrical interference. It is the ideal link between buildings, across large sites or between floors and comms rooms. Our fibre optic cabling installation is available for projects where copper cable reaches its limits.

Choosing the Right Cable

Most homes and small businesses do very well with CAT6. CAT6A suits demanding networks or installations you want to keep useful for longer. Fibre is for long distances and links between buildings. During your survey, our engineer explain the options in plain language and recommend what fits your budget and your plans, without upselling.

Cabling for CCTV

Cameras need steady power and data, and a wired connection is the most reliable way to deliver both. Good CAT6 or CAT6A cabling means sharper live views, dependable recording and fewer dropouts. See how this supports our CCTV installation, home CCTV installation and commercial CCTV installation services.

Cabling for Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi access points work best when each one is connected by cable, because the wired link keeps the signal strong and consistent. A sound cabling installation also means you can add more access points later without starting again. Read more about our Wi-Fi installation service.

Testing and Labelling

A cable that looks fine can still underperform, so every run should be tested before handover. We label cables at both ends and organise the patch panel, so anyone who works on your network in future can see exactly what connects where. This saves time and money on every later change.

Upgrades and Tidy-Ups

If your cabinet is a tangle or you need more data points, you do not always need to start from scratch. We can add new cable runs, replace outdated cabling, relabel and tidy existing installations, and make your network easier to manage. For ongoing support, see our CCTV maintenance service.

FAQs

Wi-Fi Installation FAQs

For standard copper cabling such as CAT6 and CAT6A, the limit is about 100 metres. Beyond that, fibre optic cabling or an extra switch is used.
Sometimes. We test what you already have and tell you honestly whether it is worth keeping or should be replaced.
Almost never. Fibre is mainly for long runs and links between buildings, so most homes are best served by CAT6.
In many cases, yes. We route cables neatly and, where the building allows, conceal them in trunking, ceilings or voids.
It improves the speed and stability inside your property, but it cannot exceed the speed of your broadband package.
